Privacy policy

Rent Rankings is an independent site run by Steve Foxen-Durnien. It has no accounts, no forms and no adverts, so we don't ask you for any personal details and we don't hold any. This page explains the small amount of data that analytics and hosting involve.
Analytics
We use two analytics tools to see which pages are used, so we can improve the site. Neither tells us who you are.
Google Analytics is off unless you accept it in the banner. If you accept, Google sets cookies called _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID, which last up to two years. They record the pages you view, roughly where you are (country and city level), and your device and browser type, so that visits can be counted. We don't switch on advertising features or share this with advertisers. Google processes the data and may do so outside the UK. See how Google uses data from sites that use its services. If you reject, nothing is loaded from Google and no cookies are set. We rely on your consent for this.
Ahrefs Web Analytics counts visits and page views. Ahrefs says it works without cookies and without collecting personal data. It runs for everyone, on the basis of our legitimate interest in knowing how the site is used. See the Ahrefs privacy policy.
Your choice
You can change your mind at any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page. Rejecting, or accepting then rejecting, clears the Google cookies this site can reach.
What stays in your browser
Two small items are kept in your browser's local storage and never sent to us: your cookie choice (rr-consent) and the council you picked to highlight on the explainer pages (rr-area). Clearing your site data removes them.
Hosting
The site is served by Cloudflare. Like any host, Cloudflare handles your IP address and basic request details to deliver pages and keep the service secure, and our hosting keeps short-lived request logs. We don't use these to identify anyone.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to how it is used. In practice we hold none that identifies you, but you can ask. If you are unhappy with how your data is handled you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
